So imagine this…
Somewhere in the world there’s a village, with a population of around 700 people or so. You don’t know any of them personally, but you are aware of their existence.
Now imagine that one day, some great tragedy occurs, and all 700 die over a period of a few days. Scared, fighting to live, helpless. Old people, women. Terrified children. Men dying, knowing they were unable to save their families.
We’d demand answers. How could this happen?
Yet we all sat by as 700 drowned, just in the last few days, fleeing war, persecution and devastation. And before you say that they should have stayed where they were, remember that for some, the only thing they could get to feed their children was grass.
So we blame them, even though Kofi Annan told us years ago that not only was this going to happen, but that had intervention taken place, this level of pointless human tragedy was preventable.
700 people, just in the last few days.
